CFP semis viewership down a whopping 39% on New Year’s Eve

 

Per Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch the Oklahoma versus Clemson Orange Bowl averaged 15.64 million viewers and the Michigan State versus Alabama Cotton Bowl averaged 18.55 million. The good news for ESPN is those numbers are up huge versus last year’s New Year’s Eve games, the bad news is they are down a massive 39% versus the 28.2 million the CFP semifinals averaged last year on New Year’s Day.

With Stanford routing Iowa in the Rose Bowl, look for the overall declines for the big 6 bowl games to be steep, despite this year’s boost to the Orange and Cotton bowl games.
