Cubs > Election as FS1 wins the week in primetime cable network TV ratings rankings for the week ending October 16, 2016

October 18, 2016

I long ago stopped posting these regularly because they don’t change enough week-to-week to be all that interesting (to me.) But this week was interesting! Fueled by four primetime Cubs games, FS1 not only beat ESPN in primetime and total day viewership, it led all of cable in primetime viewership — and it wasn’t close. In primetime viewership FS1 led its nearest competitor Fox News by more than a million…

October 17, 2016

The Houston Texans comeback win in overtime over the Indianapolis Colts drew a 9.0/15 overnight rating/share (on average 9 percent of all the households in the largest 56 TV markets were tuned into the game and 15% of households watching TV at the time). That’s down 38 percent versus the 14.6 overnight for last year’s Patriots-Colts week 6 game.  The 9.0 was still good enough to beat NLCS Game 2’s 5.0 overnight rating…

ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” is down 21% versus 2015 since Labor Day

The “First Take” vs “Undisputed” showdown gets more attention from the sports media, and that’s understandable. There is the Skip Bayless’ old show versus Skip Bayless’ new show angle as well as the ESPN2 vs FS1 angle. PTI is just down. 21% versus Labor Day*.  It’s more interesting to me because it’s ESPN’s flagship debate show, the one with the most viewers. It’s still a half hour. Same hosts. Same…
