In Monday’s overnight ratings (top 56 markets out of 210 overall) 2.14% of households, on average, watched the USA-Australia Women’s World Cup match on Fox Sports 1 vs a 2.88 for the Tampa Bay Lightning-Chicago Blackhawks game 3 on NBC Sports Network.
That’s a pretty healthy beat-down in the overnights. Blackhawks nation! Chicago had a massive 24 local rating in their local market Tampa Bay had a not-Chicagoan, but still impressive 13.2 rating. Hardly a slouch.
We’ve really enjoyed the Stanley Cup Final big time. But future Team USA group stage matches will air on the Fox Broadcast network which is in nearly 30 million more homes than Fox Sports 1 and the Friday USA-Sweden match won’t have any NBA or NHL competition.
The final group stage match (also on Fox) will have some overlap with Warriors-Cavs game 6 (if necessary), but can can either of those games top the 6.6 million viewer average for the Belmont Stakes-infused game 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup finals?
If not, the hockey fans will have the last word in social media…for at least a few days. But if team USA advances out of the group stage that last word won’t last very long.
