Episode 67: John Ourand & Richard Deitsch

I’d never had Richard & John on together and it was as much fun as I’d hoped it would be! We went deep on the single data point (the overnight rating for Falcons/Eagles) of NFL ratings available when we taped. We also discussed the ratings landscape and how ratings can/should be viewed through the season. We also talked about the rights landscape for the next round of NFL rights and John and Richard are both interested to see what role Warner Media (AT&T/Turner) play in the rights bidding.

We also went very inside baseball talking about some network PR. And of course, since John was on, we had to get into a discussion about Get Up’s ratings. I closed the podcast by asking John & Richard what NFL storylines (ratings or otherwise) they’re following from the sports media angle and we wound up ending on the topic of all the content cropping up around legalized gambling.

During the podcast I mentioned the “point/counterpoint” SBJ did on NFL ratings. Here are the links to those pieces:

Ratings concerns overblown say TV execs (https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2018/09/03/Media/Sports-Media.aspx)

Ratings concerns not overblown says Wall Street analyst. (https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2018/09/06/NFL-Season-Preview/Ratings-Analysts.aspx)
