Episode 9: Aaron Solomon: Producer, ESPN’s ‘Around the Horn’ (@ASolomon6)

As a long time “Around the Horn” fan it was a lot of fun to chat with Aaron Solomon (@Solomon6 on Twitter) who is the show’s producer. Among the topics discussed:

– what’s involved in producing the show, including the daily morning conference calls and show tapings

– how panelists get into the rotation and are scheduled — I also asked whether panelists bust Frank Isola’s chops for getting the PTI guest-hosting gigs lately (spoiler: yes!)

– Tony Reali’s role and how Aaron handles working from Washington, DC with Reali and a show that is taped in New York

– I tried to crack the code on how the show is scored

– if/how Aaron looks at the show’s TV ratings

– what it’s like to work on a show that’s lasted 15 years, seen some of its panelists go on to bigger and better things and made its way into the popular culture

– what it’s like growing up in Washington, DC with a father who is kind of famous in the DC sports media scene
