The Oklahoma-Texas Red River Rivalry drew a 2.0 overnight rating on FS1 (a 2.0 overnight = 2% of the TV households in the largest 56 Nielsen markets) down 46% from the 3.7 overnight rating the game drew last year on ABC, and the lowest national telecast dating back to at least 2006.

Here are 8 out 10 previous years’ overnight ratings when the game aired on ABC (2007 & 2010 excluded because game was regional, not national those years):

  1. Notre Dame was on ABC playing in a rain storm nobody has ever seen before. Boardcast to cable. Two schools that both are having very disappointing years. Bad luck for FS1 have the Red River Rivalry this season.

  2. While the Big 12 featured game between OU and Texas was drawing a 2.0 audience share the SEC’s featured game between Tennessee and Texas A&M drew a 4.0. Played before 106,000 at Kyle field on the A&M Campus the viewers were treated to a thrilling double overtime contest won by the Aggies. The live and viewing audiences of the two games reflect the health and viability of the Big 12 and the SEC. It should also finally close the argument forever on whether or not the Aggies move to the SEC was a wise decision.
