Pro Bowl overnight ratings down 11% from 2015 and down 25% from 2014

Per Sports Business Journal’s Austin Karp, the Pro Bowl  earned a 5.0 overnight household rating on ESPN.

That’s down 11% from last year’s 5.6 overnight rating and down 25% from 2014 when the game aired on NBC. As Mr. Karp notes, in 2014 the game on NBC aired head-to-head versus the Grammy Awards. While “Grease Live” on Fox didn’t rate as well as the 2014 Grammy Awards it earned a 7.4 overnight rating last night and in preliminary numbers drew 12.2 million viewers easily making it  the most-watched telecast of the night.

Overnight household rating = the live+same day DVR overnight metered-market household rating from the top 56 Nielsen television markets. The 56 markets (out of 210 total) account for about 70% of the US TV-viewing population. The  overnight household rating is  the percentage of the households that were tuned-in in those markets. The share is the percentage of the households that were watching TV at the time.
