On ESPN, the Valero Alamo Bowl where UCLA beat Kansas State led all the cable sports networks (and all of cable) for the day with 5.603 million viewers and a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. The TaxSlayer Bowl where Tennessee beat Iowa averaged 4.114 million viewers and a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl lead cable sports networks for Thursday January 1, 2015

Sure, it’s old news by now that the Sugar Bowl college football playoff between Ohio State and Alabama was the most-watched program on the cable sports networks with 28.271 million and that the Rose Bowl between Florida State and Oregon was right behind it averaging 28.164 million. update: viewership numbers are here (and spectacular). Playoffs!? The ratings are in for the first ever College Football Playoff semifinals and not surprisingly they were quite good. It makes comparisons to prior years’ Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl numbers a bit apples-to-pears, but ESPN isn’t complaining.
