The Preakness Stakes draws a 6.2 overnight rating, up 7% from 2015

Exaggerator won at The Preakness which drew a 6.2/14 overnight rating/share on Saturday. That’s up 6.9% from last year’s 5.8 overnight but still a smidge off the 6.3 overnight rating the race drew in 2014. While that’s good news for NBC, Exaggerator’s win is a mixed-bag for the network. With no shot at a Triple Crown this year the ratings for the Belmont Stakes will fall far short of last year’s numbers. Update: the race averaged 8.9 million viewers, down 7% versus 2014. American Pharoah won the second leg of horse racing’s triple crown at The Preakness which drew a 5.8 overnight rating on Saturday. That’s down 7.9% from last year’s 6.3 overnight. While that’s not great news for NBC, American Pharoah’s win certainly was.
