Belmont Stakes Viewership down from last year + Blackhawks-Lightning Game 2 sets records

American Pharoah won the first Triple Crown since 1978, but as with the overnight ratings, viewership for the Belmont Stakes was down from last year. The “race portion” coverage from 6:15-7:15 averaged 18.6 million viewers. Down from the 20.6 million last year. Belmont Stakes runs for a 12.3 overnight rating, down 5%

American Pharoah broke a 37 year Triple Crown drought by winning at the Belmont Stakes and the race drew a 12.3 overnight household rating. That’s down 5% versus the 12.9 overnight rating in 2014 when California Chrome was pursuing the Triple Crown and well short of the 15.9 overnight in 2004 when Smarty Jones was bidding for the Triple Crown.
